Technology Summary |
The APELC MG10-1C-2700PF is a fully integrated high-energy-density Marx generator specifically designed for High Power Microwave applications. Packing 1.8 kJ in a 0.25 m3 volume, this generator is can deliver 6 GW of peak power into a 30 Ohm load. A 300 kV pulse, with a 90 ns risetime, is delivered into a matched 30 Ohm load. |
The novel compact geometry of the APELC Marx Generator allows off the shelf components to be used in production which substantially lowers the production costs. Additionally, the APELC design requires only pressurized dry air for operation and an AC outlet for extended duration operations. |
The APELC MG30-3C-100NF-SYS Marx generator has a diameter of 50.8 cm (20 inches). Three 100 nF capacitors (20 kV charge voltage) are used in parallel to achieve the targeted per stage energy density. By paralleling capacitive stages (2 per linear stage), the overall length is compressed by a factor of two compared to Marx systems of comparable energy. |
The generator is coupled with an integrated high voltage power supply for low rep-rate operation, a digital pressure regulator, and an on-board battery for operation on remote platforms. Integrated diagnostics include a Rogowski coli current transducer, a D-dot voltage probe, and an optional terminating Current Viewing Resistor (CVR). Additionally a custom-mated pressurized load module comes with a viewing port and an assortment of high-power load resistors. |
|
The junction between the diagnostic module and load module (optional) contains: (A) the Twelve-inch Conflat interface and (B) the coaxial finger-stock load resistor connection. |
|
Load voltage pulses for various load resistances for a Marx charge voltage of 10 kV and Marx air pressure of 16.5 PSI. Load resistor tolerance is 10%. |
Ring down current pulse with Marx charged to 10 kV and terminated directly through the CVR module with no load resistor. |
